White House plans review of all IT projects
Listen up, everyone. The boss is watching and reviewing every one of your federal information technology projects.
Federal chief information officer Vivek Kundra disclosed last week that the White House plans "relentless oversight" of the entire federal IT portfolio, from the bottom up. Kundra provided few details on the White House review plans but said the government will no longer "put good money after bad" in pursuing troubled projects.
As an example, he pointed out the Department of Veterans Affairs review of their IT projects. The VA temporarily halted 45 IT projects and then allowed 32 of them to continue after they were reviewed.
Hard to know how quickly these reviews will result in more projects being delayed or canceled. One thing is certain--the old ways of doing things are over.
