White House plans new cybermilitary command
With the threat of cyber attacks becoming more frequent, the Obama administration is planning to create a new military command to defend the Pentagon computer networks and improve U.S. cyber defenses.
The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that the new initiative will protect U.S. networks from attacks by hackers, especially those from countries such as China and Russia.
The new command will be unveiled in the next few weeks by the Pentagon, and will be the first initiative to focus directly on cyber attacks that have been plaguing military and civilian agencies.
President Obama campaigned on a promise to make cybersecurity a national-security issue--on an equal footing with nuclear and biological threats. And IT experts believe it is long overdue to launch an initiative that deals directly with the evasive issue.
