White House plans health IT task force

The White House is never sitting still when it comes to coordinating IT. Its latest plan is to create a government-wide task force to coordinate efforts to implement its healthcare IT system.

InformationWeek reports the Office of Management and Budget memo calls for the development of a task force to "facilitate implementation of the president's HIT agenda through better coordination among Federal agencies involved." Better coordination is needed, the memo said, because IT in the healthcare industry has been held back by "a mix of ad hoc councils and advisory groups" tasked with leading the effort.

Nevertheless, it still sounds awfully bureaucratic. The memo added that the top priorities include identifying how best to meet the goals of better health IT.

Will another task force do the right job? Or just add another layer to a complicated problem? We are not sure. But we cannot even name a task force that got its job done.
