VA in market for 360,000 PCs

The Department of Veterans Affairs is looking to buy a lot of computers--360,000 PCs to add to its fleet of 240,000, to be exact. The VA plans to award one indefinite delivery-indefinite quantity contract on a purchase or lease basis, with plans to release a request for proposals within three months, according to an article in nextgov.com.

The VA said in its request for information that it hopes to determine if small businesses can fill this contract. It's a very big deal for big computer makers, too.

In 2007, giant computer maker Dell won a three-year deal from VA valued at more than $248 million. That contract period ends in August 2010. Dell and PC manufacturer Hewlett-Packard, along with reseller CDW-G, are likely bidders for the upcoming PC buy, according to nextgov.com.

It's good to know that the VA is continually refreshing its equipment to make sure its workers have state-of-the-art computers to carry out its mission, and that there is money in the federal budget to make this happen.
