USAJobs getting a facelift

The Revolution is coming, according to a very sophomoric video appearing on the USAJobs.gov site. The government's primary job search website is getting an overhaul, not a revolutionary act. The new site will launch on Jan. 23, with the government and its contractor, Monster.com. claiming it will be easier to navigate, more streamlined and more personal.

"You Spoke," and "we listened to your feedback," the site announces. It promises "a brand new experience" for job seekers and claims that federal job applicants will be able to better refine job search results and share job search information on Facebook, Twitter and other social networking websites.

That's quite a move for a website that has been difficult to use and even harder to get results. If you've ever tried to navigate the system, you already know the problems and what a welcome change this would be for the well-qualified applicants seeking a government job that often come away disappointed and frustrated.

Still, it remains to be seen whether the new site will live up to its billing. Changes are long overdue, and one would have expected more from contractor Monster, which has been getting a ton of money for a operating a site that has been sorely lacking. Let's hope real change is about to take place, but one has reason to be skeptical.
