The Transportation Security Administration is turning to more mobile techniques to look for terrorists trying to bring bombs onto airplanes. Specifically, it's testing a plan where airport screeners will rove through airports taking chemical swabs from passengers and their bags to check for explosives. The project has already been tested at five airports after the attempted Christmas Day bombing plot over Detroit.

TSA also is starting a nationwide test in a few weeks where screeners will use bomb-detection machines at airport gates and checkpoint lines. Passengers will be randomly selected for a check of their hands and carry-on bags. The project is expected to take detection screening to a higher level beyond metal detectors now used at every airport.

The TSA says using sensors randomly on passengers waiting for their flights will create a level of uncertainty and surprise for potential terrorists.
