Telework pending for classified data

Federal workers may soon have the option of working at a secure telework site in the Washington, DC-area if they need access to classified networks. The National Defense Authorization Act includes a proposed pilot at at least two sites that provide a secure teleworking location for government workers.

Until now, federal workers who needed to see classified information had been unable to telework because secure networks were not available at their home or a telework site.

This pilot project, however, could change that barrier and make it possible for federal workers to work remotely like an increasing number of their colleagues already are doing.

"The committee is concerned that there are limited facilities for teleworking in a secure environment for federal workers whose primary duties require access to highly classified processing systems," the bill's report said, according to an article on nextgov.com.
