A survey of 177 information technology executives from the federal and private sectors in the Washington, D.C., metro area shows that 64 percent of the private sector teleworks regularly or exclusively while only 23 percent of federal IT employees do so. The survey has a margin of error of 7.36 percent at the 95 percent confidence interval.

The disparity isn't for lack of interest, according to the survey; 91 percent of surveyed federal employees said their jobs would permit teleworking while 95 percent said they feel favorably about telework. The survey was underwritten by Intel Corporation and Cisco Systems, and conducted by FedScoop. See the full survey results here (.pdf).
