Stimulus package windfall for federal agencies

The stimulus package now moving through Congress has some surprises in it for federal agencies. A Washington Post article on Tuesday details how it includes a massive windfall for agencies across the federal government that includes more money for "green," initiatives, the upgrading of federal buildings and improved healthcare services.

Of course it depends on how the final bill is worked out between the House and Senate. While both measures are close in spending--$819 billion in the House version and $838 billion in the Senate version--the House has far more in it for federal agencies, according to the report.

There are plenty of discrepancies between the two bills. One example is the General Services Administration program to increase energy efficiency in federal buildings would receive $45 million in the Senate bill, but only $15 million in the House version. The answer to who gets what and how much will be clear in the next week when House-Senate negotiators hammer out a final bill to send to President Obama's desk.
