Spotlight: VA awards contract for iEHR open source custodial agent
The Veterans Affairs Department awarded June 17 an almost $5 million contract for an open source custodial agent that will manage an electronic health record "ecosystem." The contract winner is The Informatics Applications Group, or TIAG, according to a June 20 post on FedBizOpps.
VA officials have said the custodial agent will be at the heart of the open source electronic health record development ecosystem they intend to set up. The custodial agent will initiate open source projects, accept or reject other proposed projects, and manage the process of placing code into the codebase. VA officials have said they want to refactor as much of their existing EHR code base, which is programmed in MUMPS, as possible.
