Spotlight: NASA may sell, rent space-shuttle facilities
NASA is selling and leasing remnants of its space-shuttle program at the Kennedy Space Center, from its launchpad to aerospace tracking antennas. Boeing already leases a shuttle hanger and NASCAR is rumored to be renting the shuttle runway for racecar tests.
The shuttle program ended in July 2011, but NASA doesn't want its buildings to fall into a state of disrepair when its maintenance budget runs out at the end of 2013. Joyce Riquelme, NASA's director of KSC planning and development told the Orlando Sentinel that the "first deals should start coming together in the next six months."
