Spotlight: NASA 'genius' at social media, says study
A number of federal agencies do quite well at social media, says a study from professors Scott Galloway of New York University and Doug Guthrie of George Washington University.
In their rating of the online presence of 100 public sector, industry and advocacy organizations, NASA comes out on top, having earned a "digital IQ" of 184 ("genius"), based on an assessment of "more than 350 quantitative and qualitative data points."
NASA earns the study's accolades for having made a viewer-customizable website with a host of interactive features ranging from simulations to 3-D visualizations and live streaming video.
Also high in the assessment is the White House, which gets kudos for launching a YouTube channel. Military services, too, do well in the study, having an average "digital IQ" of 117. Executive and independent agencies clock in with averages of 98 and 91, respectively. Download the study here.
