Spotlight: Baker says no unauthorized iTunes on VA desktops
Attention iTunes users within the Veterans Affairs Department: The chief information officer is not amused. In a memo (.pdf) sent out Sept. 30 in anticipation of the Oct. 1 switch-on date for a limited number of mobile devices on the VA network, including iPads, VA CIO Roger Baker warned that only a few approved desktop machines can run iTunes "for the sole purpose of allowing iOS devices to download and update applications."
"No other instances of iTunes are authorized and any exceptions must be approved by OIT," he said, adding that should the department's "Visibility to the Desktop" monitoring agent catch an unauthorized iTunes installation, it will be removed.
