Secret agency goes public with budget request

There's a new wave of transparency in government, and one super-secret agency just went public as a result.

The Obama administration released its $3.8 trillion budget request for 2011 on Monday, which includes $3.6 billion for the Comprehensive National Cybersecurity Initiative, an agency with a classified budget. It's the first time that a bright light has been shined into a dark corner of the intelligence world. And you can expect more details to come about this agency and others.

The CNCI is involved in running a number of cybersecurity programs, mostly overseen by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency. It runs the Trusted Internet Connections (TIC) with the goal of reducing to fewer than 100 connections between federal IT networks and the Internet.

And it is also involved in running parts of the Einstein intrusion detection and prevention programs.
