Recruiting underway for 11,000 new federal IT workers

The federal government can always take advantage of a hiring boomlet in the down economy, as workers are laid off from private sector jobs. A month ago, it was announced that the government would hire 11,000 tech jobs through 2012. Now it appears a more concrete plan by the Partnership for Public Service is taking shape.

"We are working with a handful of agencies to help them improve their recruiting, hiring, and retention of entry level IT professionals," Tim McManus, VP of Education and Outreach, with the Partnership for Public Service told Federal News Radio.

The interview also revealed the interesting motive behind the focus on IT recruitment: The government's tech workers are aging rapidly. "The average age of a tech worker is 48," revealed McManus.

The Partnership for Public Service plans to work as something of a match maker for IT workers and agencies in need of IT staff. If your agency would like to snatch up one of these job seekers, visit the PPS website.
