Recovery.gov needs a makeover already?
Recovery.gov, a brand new website created to track stimulus funds, is looking for a fresh design just a few months after being launched. The Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board and the General Services Administration plan to seek bids from contractors to redesign the site, and do it promptly, according to an article in nextgov.com.
The reason is simple: The site isn't working; so far, users are not able to follow the recovery funds from beginning to end as President Obama had promised.
The site is a collection of news releases, weekly spending reports and a way to search for stimulus-related jobs, and does not include comprehensive data on the types of contracts being issued, recipients or costs.
It's hard to keep the transparency promise in all parts of government, but the oversight board intends to select an IT contractor who can create a database cable of tracking those funds by the public; the goal is to have this done by October.
