Recovery.gov is blowing the whistle on companies that received stimulus money and haven't reported the progress on the number of jobs created or other data required.
Last week, the website that tracks the progress of the economic stimulus package posted online the names of those who failed to file reports on time for the last quarter. Also posted were the lists of nearly 400 people who have not filed reports for the last two quarters since the stimulus money started flowing.
"The two-time losers--those who failed to file reports in the last quarter of 2009 and the earlier reporting period--should really be embarrassed,'' said Earl E. Devaney, the Chairman of the Recovery board. "They took millions of dollars and then thumbed their noses at taxpayers.''
Devaney wants Congress to amend the law to add penalties against those who fail to report their progress.
In one bright spot, the number of companies failing to report their progress has dropped. In the first reporting period--October to December--there were 4,359 missing reports. In the second period, there were 1,036.
