Recovery.gov gets ready for a makeover

The Obama administration is soliciting suggestions from information technology professionals, vendors and members of the public who think that its economic stimulus-tracking website needs a makeover. It's one thing to be bold and put up a new website for the world to use; it's another to put up one that immediately needs work.

But that's what's happened with Recovery.gov. A team for the site is looking for suggestions from IT executives, vendors and members of the public who don't like what they see. The site was one of President Obama's campaign promises, and it is hoping to help deliver government transparency to the public.

So what exactly is the problem? Well, there's an enormous amount of information on the site, and still more needs to be put up. To remedy the situation, the Recovery.gov administrators are holding a week-long online forum for people to submit their ideas on website design, data collection and other topics.

At the end of the process, will there be a better website? We sure hope so. But right now we're not sure that governing by the masses will produce the outcome that is needed. What do you think?
