OPM to send SSA annuity master file data

The Office of Personnel Management will begin providing the Social Security Administration with file extracts from its annuity master file in a bid to prevent duplicative benefit payments, OPM says in a Jan. 16 Federal Register notice.

Payments to retired feds who receive both a Federal Employees Retirement System disability annuity and SSA disability benefits must be offset against each other, with payments of the former reduced by 100 percent of the latter in the first year and thereafter by 60 percent of the latter.

OPM will send SSA data collected from its annuity master file via a file transfer system, with the onset of the data sharing set to begin after both agencies' data integrity boards approve the agreement and after a 40 day waiting period following notification to Congress and the Office of Management and Budget or 30 days after publication of the notice in the register, whichever is later.
