The Office of Personnel Management is finally tapping into IT so agencies can find qualified people for mission-critical jobs in an easily accessible and centralized place. Until now, job applicants had usajobs.gov at their disposal to apply for government positions, but no one liked the way the job site worked--neither the applicants, nor the government. It was slow and tedious, often sending an email, months after the applicant had applied that simply said he or she did not meet the qualifications for the job. A job applicant felt like an application was just filed in a deep, black hole.

Now, though, OPM director John Berry is making it clear he wants to change the antiquated government process of finding and hiring federal workers. In a memo dated June 18, he outlined a number of human capital reforms to make the process easier for both the government and highly qualified applicants.

One of them is an OPM-funded centralized database of top applicants for specific jobs that any agency can dip into and hire quickly, Jason Miller reports for FederalNewsRadio.com. And it is moving forward on a very fast track to find highly qualified people and get them in place instead of the usual government hiring game that is frustrating for everyone involved.
