Federal agencies meet transparency deadline
The federal government has taken another step on the road to open government. Last Friday, all major agencies were due to have their open government websites online, and the deadline was met.
Some agencies still have threadbare sites, but others posted weeks ahead of the deadline, such as the Transportation Department, which has detailed information on their site.
Transportation has laid out a preliminary "Open Government Framework" that details which parts of the agency are responsible for different parts of the technology, policy, and culture aspects of the open government directive, according to InformationWeek.
Several agencies asked the public to submit ideas about how to be more transparent. So far, the public isn't responding to the invitation. InformationWeek reported that the DoD received just three ideas, the Small Business Administration two and a Department of Health and Human Services blog none.
What will it take to get the public to respond? It's just a matter of time, we think. When the public gets hot about a topic, they will talk.
