Obama's transparency spreads its wings

The Obama administration is serious about transparency. Just take these two latest examples of evidence that government will be open and accessible to the public for all kinds of information.

On Tuesday, the administration started a web program to eliminate the red tape in the citizenship process. It allows applicants to follow their status via text message and email. In a second example of transparency, the administration is developing a central method for Americans to receive updates about consumer recalls and other emergency information.

The administration recently launched Data.gov, all data from various federal agencies. And it used new technologies to run the government's "Cash for Clunkers" auto trade-in program. Federal chief information officer Vivek Kundra said the electronic immigration status system and the Data.gov site are key to Obama's pledge for more transparency.

"You're seeing a result of a transparent and open government the president talked about," Kundra said.
