Don't get excited yet, but President Obama's proposed 2010 budget includes $355 million to support the National Cyber Security Division at the Department of Homeland Security.

The money will be used to secure information networks throughout the nation. Thirty-six million dollars will go toward current projects to "improve surveillance technologies to detect advanced biological threats."

The proposed budget likely will be in for a tough time on Capitol Hill as lawmakers parse through every line and question every proposed dollar in the way of the $787 billion stimulus plan. Everyone agrees that more money is needed in this arena, but the competition over how much and for what agency is just beginning.
