New SSA data center going green
The Social Security Administration is planning to create a new $800 million data center that will incorporate green information technology solutions. A plan released earlier this month said the data center will include energy-efficient and environmental friendly IT solutions.
"The sustainability, energy efficiency and environmental impact resulting from the project are dependent on the initial building design, IT equipment selections, and ongoing operations of the data center," the SSA plan states. "We are committed to incorporating energy-efficient IT solutions as part of the ongoing operations of the National Support Center."
The design and construction proposals are due by October 2010. The General Services Administration will award the contract in March 2011, and there is a hope that construction will be completed by October 2013.
