With less than a month in office, federal chief information officer Vivek Kundra is already tightening guidelines for submitting contract and grant data to the USASpending.gov website.

USASpending.gov is one site where the public can see which organizations are receiving more than $25,000 in federal funds. This is part of President Obama's promise for a more transparent government.

Until now, agencies had to submit contract and grant data to the Office of Management and Budget once a month. But in a June 1 memo, Kundra increased the requirement to twice a month.

Agencies also are required to file information on recovery.gov, the administration's website detailing how the stimulus money is being spent. But that site is far behind USASpending.gov in development, and requests for proposals to rebuild it have not yet gone out.

Nonetheless, much of the information that will be available on recovery.gov is already posted on USASpending.gov.
