Navy CIO Robert Carey is definitely a guy who is with it. He embraces social media and writes his own Navy blog outlining ways to move the Navy ahead with it. In his blog posted Monday, Carey wrote that social media "is an inherent part of the toolbox for members of the millennial force, while baby boomers are just adopting it."

He went on to say that "social media tools should become the standard by which we can share and collaborate on information inside and outside the network boundaries." Carey is one CIO who is stepping up to the plate when it comes to social media, not ignoring it, or hiding from its ramifications.

In his blog, he also said that IT personnel must embrace IT security. "The Cyber/IT Workforce will need to manage the nexus between information access and the necessary security layers," he wrote, as reported by govinfosecurity.com. "While a great deal of work has been done in this space, much work remains."

Carey also said it's important for the workforce to embrace technology as the Internet evolves. And he believes it is essential to move to information-age thinking. "Many of our processes are rooted in the Industrial Age and will need to move toward the Information Age to remain relevant in the coming years," he said.
