Military gets hip with social networking

Your teenage son uses social networking. The federal government does, too. So why shouldn't the military get it?

Well, it appears those days are over. The Military Health System has added Twitter, MySpace and YouTube in attempts to attract more individuals it serve--those soldiers under the age of 24.

The MHS site used to draw only a tiny percentage of these young servicemen and women, but now it has gotten smarter, and talks to the troops in a language they understand and with tools they like to use.

Current headlines on www.health.mil include items such as "It's Men's Health Month, Man," and "DoD Pandemic Influenza's Watchboard." It's all part of the new age of communications to reach a younger audience.
