Kundra: Data center shutdowns unchanged at 39
The number of data centers the federal government has closed as part of a White House-led effort to close 137 of them by Dec. 31 remains at 39, according to Federal Chief Information Officer Vivek Kundra.
During a July 12 online, live chat at Whitehouse.gov, Kundra briefly brought up the effort, citing the same figure for closed data centers as mentioned on April 27, when the White House held an event to highlight progress made in implementing its 25 point plan for information technology. Data center consolidation is one of the points.
Kundra also reaffirmed during the chat the goal of closing 137 data centers by the end of the year.
If the rest of July is assumed to be exactly half a month, and Kundra is correct when he says that no additional data center closures have occurred since April, the White House must then close data centers at a rate of 17.8 per month to meet the goal.
Kundra is leaving his government post next month.
