Look who's on Facebook
If you are a federal official inclined to dismiss Facebook, you better rethink your priorities. Many government officials are on Facebook, and now comes word of a really big one.
Nextgov.com is reporting that Adm. Mike Mullen, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, launched his Facebook page on July 2 and has already managed to attract 309 fans. If the chairman of the JCS thinks Facebook is cool, it certainly must be. And his Facebook shows that he's well aware of the phenomenon it is igniting.
"While this is an open forum, it's also intended to be a family friendly one," he says on his page. "I look forward to hearing from you, but please keep your comments and wall posts appropriate or they will be removed."
Now we're waiting for President Obama, the first technocrat in the White House, to join Facebook, too. He probably already has, but just isn't telling us. Remember, he bucked the security suits and was able to keep his super-secure Blackberry.
