Input: Where to find the money

The ink is not yet dry on President Obama's 2010 budget, and Congress has not approved it. But a preliminary analysis by Input, the IT think tank, finds there are plenty of winners.

The chief winner is the Veterans Affairs Department, where IT spending is supposed to increase by 20 percent. Spending for the Commerce Department is expected to increase by 6 percent, while the Defense Department's spending is set to increase by 3.4 percent.

"Despite the anticipated belt-tightening under the Obama administration, technology opportunities will emerge in FY2010," the Input analysis said. It suggested that contractors focus on a few key areas.

That includes the VA, one of the fastest growing departments in terms of IT budgets. The agency is struggling to deal with increasing demands, primarily from soldiers returning from Afghanistan and Iraq.
