IBM is opening a research center In Washington, D.C., with an eye toward developing tools to help federal agencies better use data in public policy decision making. The IBM Analytics Solution Center will employ more than 400 consultants with expertise in social services, education, transportation, border management and other areas of concern to policy makers. The goal is to help government decision makers improve delivery of public services, IBM officials said. It's a nice idea, but does government really need to go outside to get a road map for what they want to do? Regardless, there have been so many failures in recent years when government embarked on projects without a strategic map or backup help, that this kind of add-on could help a government project actually succeed.
