Should government require faster Internet?

Telecom firms, Internet companies and others are worried that the federal government will require vendors to increase the speed of the Internet in order to get a piece of the $7.2 billion in broadband funds. Critics say that government standards will not help vendors speed up the Internet, and it should not be used as a requirement to get the stimulus money to expand broadband to underserved and rural communities.
