HHS launches a health IT blog

If your agency doesn't have a blog online, you better start thinking about developing one. There are blogs popping up throughout government, the latest way to communicate to the public via the Internet. The White House has one. So do agencies that usually keep their ideas and programs tightly wrapped.

To that end, Dr. David Blumenthal, national coordinator for health information technology at the Department of Health and Human Services, is launching a new blog to help readers learn more about the ONC's work in healthcare IT. He said the blog would be a forum for consumers, providers, policymakers and technology experts to share their ideas and worries regarding healthcare IT.

The blog hopes to discuss a wide range of issues including:

> How to achieve interoperability.

> New options for the certification of electronic health records.

> Privacy and security for health information.

There isn't a better person than Blumenthal to handle this blog. He's leading the implementation of a nationwide interoperable privacy-protected e-health infrastructure. Furthermore, he's got plenty of support to do his job with the Obama administration firmly behind the electronic initiative.
