GSA's multi-billion dollar networking contract

The General Services Administration (GSA) has released a draft proposal of its Connections II contract, a major 10-year proposal that will make a number of networking and IT services available to federal agencies.

These services will include communications and networking, IT operations, administration, management support, customer service and technical support, according to the GSA.

Connections II will serve as a successor to the similar Connections contract, which expires in 2011, and complement the troubled and delayed Networx contract vehicle. Networx covers external telecommunications services while Connections is geared toward internal networking needs.

The GSA said the Connections II contract will include "all labor and equipment necessary to support communications and networking solutions at the LAN, building, campus, and enterprise level."

The GSA places the Connections II's contract ceiling at $10 billion over 10 years, but government market research and analysis group FedSources projects that the contract cost could eventually reach $35 billion.
