It was too good to be true for the federal government. Until now, they were the principal source to search for government-generated data. But no longer. Google announced a new tool this week to help web users find public data often buried in hard-to-navigate government websites. The tool is called Google Public Data, and initially it will make available U.S. population and unemployment data. It's right in line with President Obama who is pushing to open up federal data to the public. And it may generate new ways of transparency that the Obama administration is seeking. Article
