Getting tough on leaks of sensitive data
Rep. Edolphus Towns (D-NY), the chairman of the Oversight and Government Reform Committee, says he wants to cut off any chance of leaking information by banning software for swapping music and video clips from all government and contractor computers.
Towns believes that "the risk" is to big to not address. Security specialists' have recommended that agencies prevent employees from downloading the applications in the first place.
It should be part of every federal worker's training that this kind of auxiliary activity makes it easy to break the security band around a federal computer system. It should be something that workers are doing without a specific law banning it.
