Geomapping the Recovery Act

Score another win for government  transparency.

If you want to know how the Department of Housing and Urban Development is spending its stimulus money, there's now an easy way to find out. A geospatial web tool developed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture is available. Since its launch on President Obama's 100th day in office, it's received more than 1.5 million hits.

The map allows the public to search for HUD and USDA projects funded by the Recovery Act and shows where the money is going. It's a pretty neat tool, and certainly is a handy way for the public to see how nearly $14 billion in HUD grants are being spent.
