Futuristic passports could show video

It sounds like a fantasy, but the technology is available to create passports containing video that will add an extra dimension to the mug shots now displayed on the inside cover of the document.

Although there is no sign that the federal government is considering use of this cutting-edge technology, Samsung has released a video showing their flexible, OLED passport that features both static and rotating 360-degree views of the passport owner for a more thorough way to check identity.

OLED technology is power-efficient, so the passport display would automatically activate when it nears an RFID reader. The display is 2
inches and 240x320, showing a rotating head in 260k colors with a 10,000:1 contrast ratio.

It may sound like a Sci-Fi flick, but the real question is why wouldn't the government want to use this technology? Biometric devices are already being used for eye scans and fingerprints, so why not take passports a step further into the future, as well?
