Ex- Rep. Davis in the running for cybersecurity czar

Former Rep. Tom Davis, a moderate Republican from Virginia and a high-tech expert, has popped up as a front-runner for the cybersecurity coordinator, according to Time.

It's a pretty amazing idea because Davis is a Republican, and he cashed in last year when he left Congress, taking a big job at Deloitte that reportedly pays in the seven-figure range. But his resume boosts his prospects for the job.

He helped author the Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) and chaired the House Government Reform Committee (later renamed as House Oversight and Government Reform). He has good connections in the private IT world. And most importantly of all: He understands the tech arena and the many pitfalls that can befall it.

There is a list of highly-qualified candidates for this job, and it may be why the Obama administration is having such a tough time finding the right one or maybe in Davis's case, one who wants the job.
