Feds seek 10,000 cybersecurity experts

The Defense Cyber Crime Center (DC3) is taking the search for security experts seriously, and it's conducting a national competition to find talent. The need for these experts is great across government, from energy and aviation, to defense and homeland security.

"We are conducting a national competition and talent search to find 10,000 security experts for the entire government," James Christy, director of future exploration (FX) at DC3 and a former security officer in the Air Force told InternetNews.com.

That's one way to handle the search other than putting out a "Help Wanted" sign at universities, think tanks and private companies.
But the issue is an extremely serious one, and the need to take action is urgent as cyber attacks on government systems continue to grow.

A separate search looking for talent is drilling down to the high school level sponsored by the SANS Institute.

With searches this intense, will it be hard to find qualified people to tap? It's hard to know. But if you listen to statistics that point out that not enough students are majoring in computer sciences in college, you will recognize that the United States has to do better, and do so quickly.
