FBI targets cybercrime
On top of having to battle bank robbers, corruption and typical white collar fraud, the FBI now is going after a growing number of cyber criminals operating anonymously in cyberspace that inflict huge amounts of damage when they launch their attacks.
Shawn Henry, assistant director for the agency's Cyber Division, said at the RSA conference in San Francisco last week that cybercrime has become one of the bureau's top priorities.
He said the FBI has full time cyber officers in 60 countries around the world, and he wants to deploy agents in other nations, as well. The threats, according to the FBI and other experts, are coming from terrorist organizations and organized criminal groups with large financial backing.
In a recent FBI cybersting operation, authorities around the world arrested 60 people involved a crime ring dealing with stolen credit card numbers, bank numbers and personal log-in information.
