FBI to sole source mobile forensic contract
The FBI plans to award a sole-source, fixed price contract to New Jersey-based Cellebrite USA, Inc. for mobile forensic casework tools. The contract does not yet have a price.
According to a notice posted Aug. 28 to FedBizOpps, FBI's market research determined that the Cellebrite UFED System is the "only hand-held, cellular exploitation device worldwide that requires no PC or associated phone drivers."
The FBI will use it to quickly extract contact lists, pictures, videos, SMS messages, call histories, and deleted text messages and call histories from mobile devices' SIM cards. It's also compatible with all major technologies and more than 95 percent of smartphone operating systems worldwide, and its extraction speed and user interface make it the only appropriate choice for the FBI, says the notice.
"Cellebrite is the only responsible provider and developer of the UFED Forensic System," says FBI.
