DoD seeks help to fight cyberattacks
In the aftermath of the July 4th cyberattacks, the Defense Department is realizing that it has to work quickly to protect its sensitive but unclassified networks against cyberattacks. Information Week reports this week that the DoD is looking to replace a five-year old system that protects its sensitive but unclassified network with a stronger and more efficient defense.
"The Department of Defense gets nailed with scans hundreds of times each day, and when you're this big or lucrative a target, you tend to take threats more seriously," a Defense Information Systems Agency spokesman said. On Monday, DISA posted a request for information seeking a product that could detect and react to sudden attacks. It is also seeking a product that could monitor traffic and tell DoD within five minutes of the start of an attack.
That sounds like an enormously tall order, but in the wake of these latest attacks, it may be time to find a solution to deal with a continuing problem that could appear at any time.
