DHS finally gets an intel chief

Caryn Wagner, whose confirmation was among two dozen held up in the Senate, was confirmed last week to head DHS Office of Intelligence and Analysis (I&A).

A hold had been placed on Wagner's nomination for months by Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) according to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who made the uncharacteristic move of identifying the lawmaker blocking the nomination.

Coburn never explained why he blocked her nomination. She's had three decades of intelligence experience. And her new job makes her responsible for overseeing intelligence operations for DHS, as well as being the key contact person for a broader network of intelligence-gathering.
