CIOs, CISOs await the cybersecurity czar
Federal Chief Information Officers (CIOs) and Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) are anxiously awaiting President Obama's appointment of a cybersecurity adviser and a rollout of the administration's plans to better organize and protect government IT networks.
In an interview with the Information Security Media Group, Jim Flyzk, the former Treasury CIO and White House IT advisor on homeland security, who now is a private consultant, said there is heightened interest in who will be in charge and "what will be the additional work and responsibilities mandated."
Flyzk said government CIOs and CISOs are optimistic that positive changes are in store with the president's interest and commitment to IT security. But he added that everyone is on hold awaiting word and direction.
"There are still a lot of questions that are buzzing around town, and until those questions are answered, people are more in the planning mode as opposed to the actual doing mode," he said.
