A brand new USAJobs.gov

It just got a lot easier to apply for a federal job via USAJobs.gov. Gone is the cumbersome job site that made applicants for government jobs feel like they were filing their applications into a big, dark hole. In its place is a streamlined, easy-to-use site to find a potential job and apply for it, the Federal Times reports.

It's also easy for people with disabilities, veterans, students and senior executives to find employment opportunities.

"It's hard to overstate the site's importance," OPM Deputy Director Christine Griffin said. "It's the front gate for Americans who want to join our civilian service...and we got feedback that the new site is just as easy to use as Google."

Job seekers can search by location and key words. The site includes more options to filter results by what someone is looking for.

USAJobs.gov lists between 30,000 and 40,000 jobs at any given time, and gets 120 million hits each year. The old site was often criticized as being an obstacle to finding a job.

The site was redeveloped by Monster Government Solutions. Government designers looked at sites such as Facebook to get ideas about what really works in an age where online job applications have become the norm.
