Audio: Vivek Kundra on federal IT priorities and the fiscal 2012 IT budget
Information technology is a major component of projects across the federal government and, similarly, it's comprises a major chunk of the budget. The federal government plans to spend $79.5 billion on IT in fiscal 2012, according to the Office of Management and Budget.
The federal IT budget for fiscal 2012 is focused on cutting what "we cannot afford and deploying game-changing technologies," said Federal CIO Vivek Kundra during a Feb. 16 press call.
During the call Kundra reiterated the administration's IT priorities for agencies: Fix large-scale IT management, adopt more efficient technologies, enhance federal information security, and promote accountability and innovation through open government. He spoke primarily on data center consolidation efforts and the "cloud first" mandate laid out in OMB's 25-point strategy for federal IT, in December 2010.
