Audio: VA officials on Blue Button competition

A competition announced July 19 by the Veterans Affairs Department will give $50,000 to the first team able to install a personal health record download capability on 25,000 physician, or other medical provider, websites by Oct. 18, or sooner.

The VA developed such a capability for its patients in 2010, calling the downloadable PHR a "Blue Button."

VA Chief Technology Officer Peter Levin and Jonah Czerwinski, director of the VA Innovation Initiative, discussed the contest and the Blue Button initiative with reporters on July 21.
