Audio: VA discusses fiscal 2012 budget request
The Veterans Affairs Department wants to spend $61.85 billion in gross discretionary funding for veterans health, benefits, and other services, including $58.78 billion in net discretionary budget authority and $3.08 billion in anticipated medical collections starting in fiscal 2012, which begins Oct. 1.
Of course, VA still needs Congress to approve its spending bills, something which has been increasingly difficult for the legislative branch to accomplish.
VA officials spoke with reporters on Feb. 14, the day the executive branch released its budget proposal for the entire federal government. Click play to listen to the call, which is about one hour long.
