Department of Navy Chief Information Officer Terry Halvorsen spoke with reporters on Aug. 23 about his efforts to reduce spending in Navy and Marine Corps information technology.

Halvorsen has said DON IT spending must go down by 25 percent over the next five years and has directed both services to set up review boards to approve any IT spending that totals $1 million or more. In response, the Navy has directed the board to review spending worth half that amount, while the Marine Corps has lowered the review threshold to $250,000.
